Reinvent

Nick Shaw | November 22, 2008 | 1:52 pm

I think its time to reinvent this homepage as i finally have some time to do so. The next week is going to be hectic working all the time due to black friday but I think I’ll find the time to make a nice design and start implementing it. Figured I’d give a little update for anyone who even checks this which by now is probably close to no one, but oh well. Expect a new design in a few weeks.

Broken Lungs

Nick Shaw | October 20, 2008 | 10:09 pm

Its been pretty hectic since the move to college and my last post from over the summer. I’m now sitting at the end of a quarter with a lot of changes, some being more exciting than others. Finally got the promotion I’ve been working towards at work with becoming a firedog tech which is nice. Other than that, not too many exciting things have been happening. College is pretty much what i expected with some surprises and there weren’t necessarily good ones, but I won’t get into those. Course selection for the 2nd quarter is Wendesday so we’ll see what I can get into and what I can’t. I’ll make another post soon when I have more time to write about the full experience I’ve had so far.

Standing on the Edge of Summer

Nick Shaw | August 20, 2008 | 1:21 pm

Sitting here I’m wondering where my entire summer went when I only have 4 days left until I move into the next chapter of my life with college. They say the summer before you move on to college is probably the best one of your life and looking back I have to say that it pretty much was. Other than working myself into the ground 40 hours a week at Circuit City, I’ve made a lot of new friends and spent my summer pretty well. It’s going to be hard to be without some of my best friends as they go away for a bit cause my breaks at RIT are pretty messed up being on trimesters, but I’m sure I’ll make time to see them all when they are home. I guess we’ll make do with what time is given to us until next summer rolls around.

4 days left. It is unreal to think that only just a few months ago we were just starting to get to know people on facebook that we would be meeting up with at school. I honestly can say that I’m pretty excited to move in and not really feeling nervous at all. The only thing I’ve really thought about is the fact that i need to find a new car within three weeks otherwise I may not be returning to work. That may be the biggest thing about this transition to RIT. I’ve made a lot of good friends at work and I really don’t want to leave them but we’ll see what happens.

Well its back to getting stuff together which my mom has done most of the packing and shopping for stuff that doesn’t require my opinion on the subject. 4 more days, let the fesitivities begin.

Countdown

Nick Shaw | July 31, 2008 | 12:41 am

Well it has been a pretty eventful month. Between working my tail off and going out all the time, I’ve had very little downtime which it has been nice to keep busy. I find out my room assignment on Friday and hope that it is someone i can tollerate living with. Only time will tell I guess. I, along with everyone else can’t really wait to get on campus and start hanging out and partying. It’s going to be a great time and I can’t wait til the fun begins!

Hopefully the rest of the summer will be like it has been so far then I couldn’t complain how it has gone. A lot of different friendships have been strengthened which is great especially those who will still be around. I’m still trying to figure out how to deal with missing a few close friends that will be going away. I guess in time that will be dealt with and we’ll see how that goes. I’ll make another post in a few days after I find out about my rooming so check back!

Then I Defy You Stars

Nick Shaw | July 3, 2008 | 1:58 am

Well since the last day of school, through exams, graduation, and my graduation party the other day on the 1st, things have changed; in fact many things have changed. I sit here now at the keyboard of my new Macbook Pro, but something more simpler: a laptop that i’ve been wanting since I was little, not a mac, but a laptop. Thinking back it seems like it wasn’t too long ago when i first wanted one of my own even when I was probably way too young to even be responsible for something that costs so much. I guess the point that I’m getting at is that it has been fun to look back over the past chapter of my life to see where I have been, what I’ve done, and how far I’ve come to be where I am today. Now I’m graduated and looking forward to taking on the world that awaits in college and beyond.

Ok, enough with the graduation stuff but as of late I’ve been busy with work, friends, and the usual shenanegans. I guess I sit now where i didn’t think i would be, single. I don’t want to get into details but the whole ending to the relationship between Shannon and I left me frustrated and also disappointed. Glad I have my friend’s to be there and back me that in the end I’m better off for now. The summer is just starting and we’ll see where it takes me. With college next year I’m not worried about things at all.

Summer has begun and so far it has been nothing short of epic. There will be much more to come before everyone goes their ways for the start of college. For anyone that could quite possibly be reading this, stay in touch, as I will try to with you all. Take care and enjoy the summer and I’ll be seeing you soon.

Well thats all for now as I’ve been running on very little sleep. I’ll post another update soon.

A Decade Under the Influence

Nick Shaw | June 12, 2008 | 5:38 pm

It has been awhile since I posted here and a lot has been going on. This past month was my Senior Ball and Shannon’s Junior Prom. Both were a lot of fun even though Shannon couldn’t make it to my ball because of her dance competition which was completely fine. There are pictures of those on my facebook and myspace which can be found in the links above on the navigation.

Shannon and IThe last two days of High School are finally here and part of me is really happy it’s over while the other part of me isn’t at all. This is what mainly this post was meant to be. A pre-graduation post as graduation is on the 28th. I can’t wait til summer is over so my time opens up a lot more so I can spend more time with my amazing girlfriend that I have hardly been able to hang out with in the past few weeks. With school, work, and her dance schedule, it has been crazy but we’ve made it and summer will be great with her. Can’t wait to have the late nights not only with her but with my friends before we take on the college life.

I’m not sure what to expect of next year at RIT, but all I know is that I’ll have to actually try to do good for once instead of just cruising on by and getting good grades while doing so which is what high school was mostly. Guess I got lucky with that haha.

After the last two days go by I’ll do another post about the final days about High School cause I’m not really sure what to expect the last day other than Senior Pranks and other stuff. We’ll see how it goes cause I’m sure it’ll be quite crushing walking out those doors for the last time.

Be sure to take care of eachother,
- Nick

The War of All Against All

Nick Shaw | May 3, 2008 | 11:44 pm

It has been a little bit since I’ve posted here so I figured now would be a good time to give an update. The past two weeks have been pretty well and pretty busy. I can’t wait for this year to finally be over and then the fun will begin. With AP tests starting this week, the stress begins but I don’t think this time it will be that bad. The two AP tests (calc and physics) are going to be pretty tough so I don’t really have any great expectations to come from them. Speaking of school, I spent this past week signing stuff for state loans and all that stuff for my financial aid for college. Reading all the fine print is annoying because there is so much crap in it and mom just wants to make sure everything is all good before I sign my life after college away (only for a short while ha).

Work at Circuit City starts tomorrow so I’ll be there at noon training and getting accustomed to their system and way of doing things. With another job I’m not sure how my time will be after this but I’ll make sure the time i do have is either with my lovely girlfriend or my friends. It is only a matter of time before they leave for college over the summer and then it’ll be awhile before I see any of them. A good portion of them are staying close to home which is good but the others that aren’t I sure will miss being able to stop by anytime. We’ll handle that when the time comes I guess

The Receiving End of Sirens had their farewell show in Rhode Island last night and I’m disappointed that I was unable to go. Heard from a few friends that went that it was pretty epic and I really wish I could’ve seen them for the first, and what would’ve been the last time ever. They have been an inspiration to me with my guitar and learning their songs to teach myself has been something that will stick forever. Even though it was their last show, their music will live on and I hope in the future we can see them coming back together.

I’m in a war right now with my parents about getting a car soon so I won’t have to rely on their schedules for work. It is quite annoying especially when they are thinking about having me on my own insurance plan which could mean $1,200 for 6 months. I pretty much wouldn’t be able to afford that, a car, and have money left over to do anything else with the way gas is, so that is quite the bullshit idea. I’m trying to work them over having the car on their plan but we’ll see how working them over this week goes… Dad is almost ok with it, but it is mom who needs to be worked on.

Really I can only think of two things that have been good in the past week and a half: my friends and my girlfriend. I think the only reason why I somewhat enjoy the bullshit we do these days (aka last few months of senior year) is cause of my friends. Brandon came home from boot camp for 10 days and seeing him in school was pretty good. Was glad to see how the marines changed him a little bit, but then again he was still the old Brandon as well. Hopefully I’ll get to see him after he comes back from his combat or whatever training he has to do next. I think the only thing that has been keeping me sane the past week with all the bullshit that has been going on is my girlfriend. I can’t begin to say how happy I’ve been for what is almost a month now that we’ve been dating. Thinking back I can just remember of how shitty a mood I was in most of the time before we started dating. I’m glad all that has changed now and I couldn’t be happier right now if I didn’t have her =).

Maybe in the next post I’ll talk about volleyball since it has finally started again, well at least open gyms once a week. I can’t even find the words to explain volleyball right now cause it can be many extremes haha.

As TREOS likes to say, “Take care of each other” until next time,

- Nick

First day back, and latest happenings

Nick Shaw | April 22, 2008 | 2:31 pm

So today was the first day back to school after a much needed Spring Break. I think it was safe to say that break went really well compared to how I had foreseen it to be long before it was even here. I guess some change of events caused this but I can’t complain because these events aren’t bad at all. I know I’ve been slacking at keeping this update with anything over the past few months but I’ve been so busy, so lets just start off with before break.

Shannon and IThe week off was well spent with my new girlfriend Shannon that I am pretty lucky to have. Over the past week I’ve been so happy with her and I don’t think I can remember when I’ve been this happy with a girl in a very long time (sorry to those ex’s that actually read this, but i doubt most of them do). She actually treats me like a real boyfriend and not someone who is just there along for the ride. Mom has said in the past that sometimes I spend too much time with a girl, but this time I just laughed and said, “I could careless, she deserves it” and smirked :-). I can honestly say that my break couldn’t have been any more well spent than it was being with her.

Another highlight of break I guess was now acquiring what is a third job at Circuit City. I’ll be a Sales Associate starting off with Computers and Imaging which should be a new experience selling stuff to people. I’m looking forward to starting this week sometime. With another job comes a car soon enough so I’ve been looking around for something cool. It’s a bit hard finding something that has low insurance, high gas millage, but still looks cool. I guess it all is with being a kid so to speak and wanting something powerful and sporty. I’ll get there someday I guess haha.

It is getting close to the end of the year with something like 6-7 weeks of school left for my senior year. I think it is safe for a lot of us to say that the year flew by while on the other hand at times it felt like it dragged on and on. I can’t wait for summer to come and be done with what seems to be a senseless end of the year. I’m basically done with what I need to graduate and all I need to do is stick out the last few weeks and have some fun with my class of 2008. Should be fun so let the good times roll.

I’ll check back in a few days and try to keep this more updated than I have been.

New Layout

Nick Shaw | April 19, 2008 | 2:07 pm

Ok so I just spent the last few minutes customizing this new layout. I think it fits better than the other one and I was getting bored of seeing the same thing since i relaunched the site. This will do until I redo the site entirely (if I ever get around to that). I’ll do another post later tonight or tomorrow about the past week off and everything. Stay tuned.
